Our jr Business Controller / Controller is a linking pin between Business, Control and Reporting activities within our organization.
You are our company’s professional, overseeing the financial business performance. Being part of a Shared Service Team, you have a broad area of responsibility. This position entails not only business control, but also partially controlling related activities.
You will contribute to help our business (leaders) understand and navigate through some of the complexities of our current client and compliance legislations and obligations.
We acknowledge the importance of the business controller’s role and related contribution. Being a vital member of our team, your opinion is heard. Adding value to companies’ financial performance insight. With relating steering information, you will provide valuable insights for local and international management.
It is of importance having a good understanding of our business and operations. Also, the underlying business relationships between eg vendor inputs and related customer outputs. This includes supporting and improving processes and applications. Your contribution will help support our deployed (global) transformation. Eg further automate report production.
Together with our team of professionals, you will also contribute company’s compliance and control. Thus, being part of the company’s close cycles and audits both internal and external.
Job Duties
Financial Planning and Analysis. One of your main duties is help overseeing our financial planning & analysis (FP&A). Shift from reconciliation to insightful analysis. Which includes evaluating the company’s financial data but also supporting plans keeping our business on the growth path.
Budget Management. You will play a key role in budget management. Responsible for each department’s budgeting factors, beginning with budgeting needs, making plans and monitoring budgets. Also help ensure our resources are used efficiently and assist the business in reducing additional costs.
Internal Controls and Compliance. Safeguard and further improve our developed and implemented processes. Protecting company’s assets and make sure that every financial data in the report is accurate. We are responsible for following up on these processes regularly and ensuring that every business practice is conducted as per the law, regulations, and internal policies.
Decision Support. You are a key player supporting (senior) management in decision-making. Providing financial data in an easy-to-understand way for applicable audiences. Also help-out analyzing for a new business potential, opportunities but also eg client profitability’s.
Tasks & Responsibilities

- Sparring partner of the business (owners). Challenges numbers ensuring reliable & realistic steering information
- Reporting to and working closely with the Finance Director. Providing day to day and long-term support in the delivery of key financial objectives
- Pro-actively and orchestrating recurring FP&A activities and management advice related to eg forecasting and budget preparations
- Pro-actively prepare and analyze on company’s business performance. Eg Client profitability, Revenue-billing reports, etc.
- Intervene and Liase with and act as “quarterback” for key business partners. Provide eg analysis and help FP&A related requests
- Pro-actively provide ad hoc reports, related analysis and advice to local and international stakeholders
- Pro-actively prepare and distribute financial (billing and revenue) reports and packages by gathering and analyzing information related to current performance
- Support our month-end close, control and reporting process. Providing commentary on key variances
- Shift from reconciliation to insightful analysis. Validate, reconcile and report company’s performances. Monitor and ensure timely business reporting cycles
- Support finance projects, collect finance’s reporting requirements
- Help further improve our data design structure and related best practices and related documentation
- Support a variety of improvement projects eg Power BI dashboards
- Advise and support in Reporting Framework transformation, within the different business disciplines
- Assist with recurring internal and external audits.
Our ideal candidate will have
- Minimum 3 years of business control working experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or in another related discipline
- Work experience within international (media) company
- ERP, Excel and other application experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with focus on continuous improvement
- High attention in detail and strong organizational skills
- Pro-active team-player, eager to learn, who enjoys working within a diverse team
- Flexible, precise and immune to stress. Solution minded
